The twist drill plays a very important role in the modern manufacturing, and the wear of the twist drill flank surface is the most serious failure modes. The common method of grinding the flank surface of twist drill is cone sharpening method, but it has a lot of problems. In order to solve these problems of the existing grinding method, using the WEDM forming method, and the wire cutting forming device is designed to replace the grinding wheel.In virtual manufacturing, the virtual machine technology can simulate the NC machining process through the modeling of NC machine tools and its system,to establish a real machining environment, which is used to test design, NC program is correct. The cutting forming device virtual machine model is builded by using virtual machine technology, verifyed the feasibility of the designed forming device and improved it.The main contents of this thesis include as follows:(1) Aimed at the twist drill entity modeling, using UG secondary development tool sets, and VC++ and database technology to achieve the twist drill parametric modeling. This provides support for twist drill machining simulation.(2) For the existing problems of twist drill flank surface on grinding wheel, now using the method of linear cutting forming.According to the existing grinding theory of twist drill flank surface, a dedicated linear cutting forming device is designed and the digital mock-up is built.(3) Building the virtual WEDM machine model based on VERICUT. Combined with UG/CAM and post-processing function, the twist drill automatic programming and the simulation of the twist drill flank surface on the wire cutting processing can be realized.(4) Building the virtual machine model and the control system of wire cutting forming device, approving and improving the feasibility of designed forming device by using virtual machine technology.Based on the above researches, the virtual WEDM machine model is builded. The designed forming device is verified and improved optimally. It is a good way to solve the existing problems of twist drill flank sharpening by using the WEDM method.
