The wear of twist drill is mainly happened to the flank of it. And traditional forming method of flank of twist drill is realized by abrasive wheel grinding,however which exists certain problems such as grinding burn,complicated grinding mechanism. For this,combing with present forming principle of drill flank,a new grinding method of using WEDM instead of abrasive wheel is put forward,basing on which the specialized wire cutting forming machine can be designed to process the flank of twist drill.As a research branch of ever-accelerated VMT,the final goal of virtual machine is to build a real machining enviroment for virtual manufacturing,which can be used to simulate and evaluate the impact of machining process on product quality. In order to examine the effect of designed forming machine tool,the thesis combines the 3D model of foming machine tool with VMT to carry out simulation processing and verify the feasibility of it.The main research contents of the paper as follows:(1) To build the mathmatic model of twist drill flank forming,analyze and caculate the relationships between four grinding parameters including interaxial angle θ,semicone angle δ,apex distance A,eccentricity e and chisel edge angle ψ,relief angle α.(2) Integrating the shape of twist drill flank with now available abrasive wheel forming method of it,the required feed movement of WEDM forming machine of twist drill flank is determined,of which the motion of twist drill spins on imaginary cone axis will be realized by the machine interpolation function.(3) According to the wire cutting forming principle of flank of twist drill and the size of required forming twist drill,by virtue of mechanical design handbook,main machine tool components are designed and appropriate product sample models are recommended,then 2D construction figure of wire cutting forming machine tool is finished.(4) Using 3D software UG to model and assemble the WEDM,which strives to agree with the actual machine tool model,then the digital prototype of wire cutting forming machine is to be built.(5) Transforming 3D model of WEDM built by UG into the frame of STL,which is imported into VERICUT software to simulate processing. And main geometry angles of finished drill are measured to verify the desigened WEDM forming machine of twist drill flank of interpolation method is feasible.Basing on the above research,this thesis shows that the designed wire cutting forming machine of twist drill flank with interpolation method is indeed practicable and WEDM forming method can solve problems well caused by original abrasive wheel forming.
