Broadly speaking, CAD(computer aided design) for casting process, includes casting CAD and CAE(computer aided engineering), and the former is the prerequisite for the latter, because CAE needs casting process chart designed based on CAD.In recent decades, with the rapid development of computer technology, the casting process of CAD and CAE have made great progress. Compared to CAE, the speed of CAD development is relatively slow. On one hand it is due to the complexity of casting process. On the other hand, it is because of the different standards casused by the actual differences in the production of different foundries. Therefore, the research of current casting process is much less and the development is very slow, and most of the design process manufacturers rely on manual. Because all of above, with the co-operation of China National Erzhong Group Co.( Referred as Erzhong or Deyang Erzhong), this paper carried on the research on practical casting CAD system.This paper analyzed domestic and international casting process of CAD status and trends. After comparing with current popular development environments, selecting AutoCAD2006 as a supporting platform, using C+ + in VS2002.NET as development tool and developing environment, also with the help of ObjectARX2006 SDK, a practical steel casting CAD system has been developed combined with casting theory and based on fully survey on Erzhong's production.Overall, this article studied a variety of casting processes of the production, based on the requirements of the steel casting process, and developed a set of cast steel casting process CAD software for Erzhong foundry, including die parting surface systems, die parting line system, gating system, sand-core system, riser system, special processing system and auxiliary system as the top ten. It is convenient and can availably improve efficiency of design and drawing for Erzhong.
