There is high economic and remedial value in many species of Labiatae plants. Essential oil which is to be synthesized and be secreted by glandular hairs is mainly to be made use of ,and hence secretion of essential oil is to be influenced by distributing, types and structure of glandular hairs. Quality and quantity of essential oil is associated with difference among many glandular hairs. Meanwhile, glandular hairs are an important criterion for classifying. Because of a few of species, especially comparative morphology in glandular hairs to have been researched on,there are some questions being discussed in this paper. Firstly, 11 species Labiatae plants have been selected as subject. Secondly, leaf epidermis and morphology characteristics are to be studied by scanning electron microcope and tissue slice, and relationship between types of glandular hairs and quality of essential oil is analysed, which will provide the foundation for future research of increasing quality aquanity of essential oil by controlling birth and growth of glandular hairs. Conclusions below are reached about 11 species Labiatae.1. The outer surface of cells in leaf epidermis is covered with a layer of moderate cuticle ,but there is some strip texture being restricted within a cell limited in different direction and size.2. The cell upper epidermis is smaller than the lower one. There are air hole, glandular hairs and non-glandular hairs in epidermis, but there are more in upper epidermis than lower one,and there are different thickness among species.3.Shape of stoma around which is of actinomorphic strip texture ,differ from circle to ellipse and cuticle of subsidiary cell stick up like bract or flat.4. Non-glandular hairs is of ramification or non-ramification, and its base is of actinomorphic cuticlar strip texture or of freely ones. There are grains which scatter along line or corner in some non-glandular hairs.5.Shape of glandular hairs is compart mentalized into two types:shield, head. It is different evidently in morphology characteristics, size and number of head cell among species.6.The thicker glandular hairs scatter and the more secrete oil is, the higher content of essential oil is.
