Firstly, the theoretical background of the slipping-window FK analysis isderived from the traditional FK analysis, and then computation flow of theslipping-window FK analysis for tracking the energy radiation sources of largeearthquakes is introduced, finally the computer programs are made for this purposeusing Matlab language.A temporary seismic network in the countries of Ethiopia and Kenya recordedthe 14 November 2001 Kunlun Mountain Pass earthquake. An array is formed with 22of the stations, which is called EK array. The responses of the EK array is calculatedand analyzed in order to determine the best frequency range for data analysis. The slipping-window FK analysis is applied the broadband data of the EK arraygenerated by the 2001 Kunlun Mountain Pass earthquake for the energy radiationsources. The main results are in the following. The rupture duration is about 160s.It may be a little bit larger than the truthbecause the EK array is in the west-southern direction of the earthquake, and therupture propagates from west to east in general. The rupture started at the east of Bukedaban Peak, and then extended westwardsfor about 55s firstly. Afterwards the rupture propagated from west to east for 110s.Although the propagations have different directions in different segments, the generalpropagation direction is from west to east. The trace of the energy radiation sources is estimated by 3-order polynomialfitting. The rupture length from the trace is about 519km, 181km in the west of theinitial point and 338km in the east, respectively. The location of the initial rupture point is determined to be 35.92°N, 91.70°E.This result is supposed to be reliable because not only it is located at the traces of thcsurface ruptures and the energy-radiation sources in the latitude direction but also itallows the rupture to occur in the west of the initial point, as it is true. The output energy of the EK array is calculated in the first 200s-time window. Itindicates that three energy peaks appear in the 20~30s,80-110 and 110~130s,respectively. The first one spatially corresponds to the western segment, and thesecond and third spatially correspond to the eastern segments around the epicenterlocation determined by Harvard. The average rupture velocity is estimated to be 2.28km/s during the wholerupture process.
