The study on slope stability has experienced such a progression:from statistic to dynamic and qualitative to quantitative. While, the combination of them is the main measure to analyse the slope stability synthetically.Based on this measure,in this paper, the stability of high slopes at Lueyang power station is analyzed systematically, and the state of slope stability is compared between the slopes in natural condition and that after excavation.First, according to the character of deformation and destroy of the high slopes at lveyang power station, the destroy mechanism is analyzed. To the fact that the slope is anti-inclined layered slope and mostly covered with Quaternary, the three destroy modes of peristaltic sliding-cracking,relaxing -cracking and creeping-toppling(collapse) are put forward. Then, according to the scale, scope and danger degree of destroy modes, the stability of the slope is evaluated simply, and the mode of peristaltic sliding-cracking mainly happened in accumulative-formation slope is confirmed as the main destroy mechanism. Then, with the limit equilibrium method and three-dimensional finite element method, the stability of slopes in natural condition and that after excavation is calculated and simulated. When calculating with the limit equilibrium method, because of the soil's complexity and inhomogeneity, two calculational methods are adopted, so as to their results can be verified each other and objectively evaluate the slope stability. When calculating with three-dimensional finite element method, the elastic-plastic geomechanics model is adopted to simulate the condition of slope, so the slope stability can be analyzed in terms of stress and strain. Compared the result of the limit equilibrium method with that of three-dimensional finite element method, some conclusions can be obtained that the shearing strength parameter of soil mass chosen in calculation is rational, and, being traditional method, the limit equilibrium method is adapt to evaluate the stability of slopes at Lueyang power station. Finally, the stability of the slope is evaluated synthetically by means of engineering synthetical analysis and engineering comparison in corporation with the limit equilibrium method and three-dimensional finite element method. According to the evaluation results , the conclusion can be obtained that the stability of rock slope is mainly controlled by lithology, attitude of rocks and landform. While the stability of the accunulative-formation slope is mainly influenced by raining ang excavating on the foot of slopes.
