The land information system (LIS) is an important application of the geographical information system (GIS), playing a more and more important role in the GIS. The previous LIS, which based on the C/S (Client/Server) framework and traditional GIS technology, is inefficient in the transaction processing, the function of the network and the portability. So, it can't yet satisfy the request of time, and can't keep up with the development of the software technology. The whole-new technology system, LIS, which has the basement of the Workflow Management (WFM) and ComGIS and B/S (Broswer/Server) framework, can solve all problem that LIS faces.This article systemly discussed the current situation, characteristics and development trend of the LIS, drawing the following technologies. There go the detailed technologies: the Workflow Management Technologies and their combination principles with the land business; the development of network computing mode, the comparison of the C/S framework and the B/S framework, the application of ASP, COM and ActiveX which are the main methods to struturing the B/S framework; the advanced ComGIS and WebGIS as well as their respective characteristics. Take Tangshan Digital Land Information System, this article probed into the concrete application of the above-mentioned technologies on the general design of system structure, software-hardware environment and,system function structure. At last the article put forward an objective summary of all the resolutions to the LIS, pointing out its advantages and disadvantages, looking forward to the future of LIS.
