It is no doubt that great convenience has been brought to the development of GIS by the development of Internet. Meanwhile, it has provided a new field to GIS theory and technology research. The most exciting thing that is produced by combining Web and GIS is WebGIS. In short, WebGIS is a new technology in using Web technology to expand GIS and also consummate it.Starting from the research purpose and significance, this paper introduces the research actuality of geographic information system for transportation. This paper mainly focuses on the research and realization of GIS-T system in using GeoMediaWebMap to be the platform of development. Taking the software engineering thought as the instruction, the paper has completed the analysis, design and establishment of the GIS-T based on Web. Also, the organization and management methods of spatial database and attribute database are discussed, and the main data structure has been showed. Three layer structures of WebGIS have been introduced with many technologies such as ASP.NET, C#, XML and JavaScript. Many functions of map have been carried out such as zoom in, zoom out, pan, spatial query and eagle eye navigation etc.The following points are the main contributions of the author made in the paper:1. Presentation of the spatial information in vector data form crossing three countries;2. Flexible producing of thematic maps.It was concluded that as the achievement of the current stage, the system developed in this paper has accomplished most of the expected aims, while there are still more to be further studied for the more complete and convenient function of the system.
