China has been access to the Internet in 1994.For 16 years, our country has been actively engaged in the exploration of the Internet industry. As network technology matures, the development of the Internet presents a diversified thriving scene, a wealth of features that make the Internet consists of a single media platform to the all-in service, commercial and industrial trends increasingly clear.City portal website in the Internet zone for the development of a performance is an important way for the construction of national importance. However, after a decade of development, city portal Web site does not have prosperd entirly. With the rise of portal sites, Internet content and functionality of the rich, the city portal gradually squeezes mainstream networked media, its development has become increasingly marginalized.Throughout the development of various medias, we can find that,when media develops to a certain stage, regionalization is an inevitable trend. As the audience's active promotion of awareness and information homogeneity is becoming increasingly serious, things around people become more important,so that the regional media rise again as the mainstream media of the city. The Internet as a new media, through portal, vertical portals and other development forms, will usher in regional development.This article first on the history of the city portal, then analysis the occurrences of the city portal website development environment, finally, on the basis of that proposed city portal website development strategy. Within this total, the information service localization, city portal website community and regional e-commerce is the main city portal website. Information service localization refers to the information with characters and practical features, is the dissemination of important content; community refers to the city portal website as a platform, to gather the power of the public members'and make available; e-business is based on the regional character, connect real bussiness to online bussiness, added purely Internet e-commerce.To sum up, the research on city portal development enrich Communications in theory; in practice, it contribute to China's Internet regional and functional development.
