Social Responsibility Of State-owned Enterprises

Corporate social responsibility has become an important competitive advantage of world-class enterprises under economic globalization. Meanwhile, the significance of implementing social responsibility and promoting sustainable development proposed by Global Compact draws more and more attention., China Telecom Corporation Guangzhou Branch (Guangzhou Telecom hereafter) which actively advocates and practices citizen behavior as an important backbone corporation in Guangzhou, has always been committed to the pursuit of co-development of corporate value and customer value, and undertake necessary corporate responsibility in various aspects.Multiple methods, such as case study, literature, and statistical analysis, have been applied in this thesis. Starting from in-depth study of the concepts, contents, and characteristics of State-owned enterprises'(SOEs) social responsibility, the reasons of SOEs' social responsibility are elaborated. Specifically, the author describes current situation of Guangzhou Telecom's social responsibility on the basis of corporate citizenship theory and relationship among corporate stakeholders. Issues and defects in complementing corporate social responsibility by Guangzhou Telecom is addressed and analyzed. To go one step further, specific strategy to enhance Guangzhou Telecom social responsibility is proposed. This study may provide the government a reference not only on establishing policies of government regulation, but also on creating an integrated business model for Guangzhou Telecom social responsibility in this new era. The author wishes that it will have an active effect on promotion and construction of a harmonious society.
