The feasible energies and resources are becoming fewer and fewer because of their exhaustiveness and social consumption for economic development; in addition, the environment is being increasingly polluted. In order to handle the energy scarcity and the environmental pollution, human beings have built many large water projects. However, the traditional ideas on water projects, owing to the lack of scientific philosophy, mainly concentrated on alteration and conquest of the nature and ignored nature's limited regenerative capacity. When evaluating the water projects, humans had not regarded their own principles and nature's principles as the inner factors for water projects. Nowadays, to harmonize the relationship between nature and human beings, to meet the demands both from the present and the following generations, and to perfectly match the current economic developmental mode, people under the guidance of scientific outlook on development, which emphasize the intensive developmental form rather than the extensive, have put forward the contemporary ideas on water projects. There are lots of accomplishments in the construction of large water projects, but at the meanwhile, there exist some problems as well. The thesis aims to study large water projects and some of their problems from philosophical perspective so as to come up with contemporary ideas on large water projects. The thesis includes five parts. Part one introduces the reasons why the topic is chosen as my thesis, current studies on this topic at home and abroad, purposes and methodologies of the thesis. Part two presents the concepts of water projects, their characteristics, and their historical development. Part three discusses the value conflicts caused by large water projects, specifically discussing the conflicts between anthropocentrism& ecocentrism and Marxist ecological values, and value conflicts from government, experts, and public citizens. Part four analyzes the effects of large water projects on politics, economy, culture and environment. Part five, on the basis of previous discussions, proposes the remedial measures for the problems of large water projects mainly from six perspectives. In the final part, it makes a generalization and conclusion.
