SMEs have played irreplaceable roles in the promotion of socio-economic development. However, the conditions of their environmental management are not so well. In this paper, we focus on SMEs to explore the driving force of environmental management and analyse the relationship between environmental performance and economic performance.By case analysis and empirical research, we establish the "Driver - Performance" model, and use factor analysis and multiple linear regression technique to study the relationship among driver, environmental performance and economic performance. Studies have shown that, for heavy polluting enterprises, social, market and government drivers in turn enhance the environmental performance of the enterprises most significantly. Enterprise and market drivers can give a positive effect on the economic performance, while social performance makes a negative effect. For light polluting enterprises, social, market and government supporting drivers enhance the environmental performance most significantly. There is also a positive effect on economic performance from enterprise driver. In addition, positive correlation is existed between the environmental performance and economic performance of SMEs, in which the correlation of light polluting enterprises is stronger. |
