Nowadays, the production areas layout problem is one of the most important problems in the manufacturing system planning. The production areas layout of manufacturing system is related closely with the production rate and cost. The layout design is one of the main problems which the production system designers are facing. Good layouts bring the factory good manufacturability. Study on the layout design of the production areas has both theoretic and applicable value. This paper study on the production areas layout and is mainly based on genetic algorithm theory combined with SLP.Firstly, by basing on the study of SLP, combining of the facts of the tobacco machinery factory, and analyzing of the factors of logistics and non-logistics factors, this paper determined the relationship between the different production areas with SLP.Secondly, by basing on genetic algorithm theory, using the maximum of the reciprocal of Carry Quadrature as the optimization goal, listing the constraint conditions based on the actual situation of the tobacco machinery factory, coding on the layout of the production areas, improving the layout of the production areas by selection, crossover or mutation, this paper obtained a good production areas layout design and achieved the purpose of the production area layout optimization.Lastly, by using the system simulation theory and simulation software Proplanner, finished the simulation of both the plan which was made by the Design Institute and the plan which was design based on GA with Proplanner software, analyzed and compared the simulation results, indicated that the plan based on GA would save 10.5% than the original plan on the transport distance, verified the plan which based on GA is feasible and effective.
