This thesis aims to examine the economic influences of mega-events, more specifically the world expos, on regional development. By reviewing the previous cases, such as the Kunming Expo, Beijing Olympic Games, the Lisbon Expo, the Lamar-Dixon Expo, the Shanghai Expo, and etc., and through comparative analysis and determinants analysis, this thesis provides some forecasts of the economic influences of the Shanghai Expo on regional development in terms of agglomeration effect, industry restructuring effect, technological effect, "troika" effect, and the national brand effect. In conclusion, the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai will play a major role in promoting economic development in Shanghai and China as a whole.
