Research On Knowledge Management System Of Construction Consulting Firms

Management guru Peter Drucker once said:"In the new economy, knowledge and other resource such as talent, capital and land, were not parallel social resources. Knowledge was the only meaningful resource, its uniqueness was that the knowledge was resource itself rather than just the resource". Special resource requires especial management mode-knowledge management comes into being, and becomes hot research field in the academic and theoretical circles. Construction consulting firms, as typical knowledge-based companies, need knowledge management to improve their knowledge use and innovation, and enhance their own competitiveness. However, there are small literatures on knowledge management (KM) in construction consulting firms, especially knowledge management systems (KMS) in construction consulting firms.In the above context, the dissertation, based on the research achievements of predecessors, by the comprehensive utilization of management theory, knowledge management theory and construction project management theory, through literature reading and interviews, analyzed the requirement of knowledge management system in construction consulting firms. On the theoretical basis, the article proposed a model of knowledge management system framework. Finally some suggestions which help construction consulting firms implement knowledge management systems were provided. The main contents of the article were as follows:First, according to knowledge management and construction project management theory, the dissertation analyzed the concepts and meaning of knowledge, knowledge management and construction project management. On this basis, elaborated on the construction project management process was actually the knowledge process of socialization, externalization, combination and internalization among three levels (personal, project organization and business organization). That is to say, the process of construction project management was knowledge management process.Second, the dissertation elaborated the definition and characteristics of construction consulting firms. Through reading literature and reviews, the research analyzed the status of knowledge management application in construction consulting businesses and a typical construction consulting firm. On the basis, this article identified the requirement of knowledge management system for construction consulting firms.Then, based on the requirement of knowledge management system for construction consulting firms, the ideology of designing knowledge management system for construction consulting firms was provided, the main framework of knowledge management system was designed, and the key techniques for system implementation were analyzed in the end.Finally, some suggestions, helping construction consulting firms implement knowledge management system, were provided from organizational construction, cultural construction, incentive mechanism and evaluation system.
