With the fast development of the big cities and the ownership transformation of the state owned architectural design firms, the architectural design had witnessed the great opportunity of fast-growing, especially those architectural design firms in the developed areas. Among them, the architectural design firms in Hangzhou are the representatives.Yet along with the end of five-year-protection for our joining in the WTO, the worldwide economic crisis triggered by the subprime crisis in 2008 and the severe competition among the architectural design firms, the outside environment has gone through changes. At the same time, having developed fast for more than 10 years, great changes took place in the inner environment of the firms:such as the organization dimensions, the organization resources, the ownership and so on. Because of the changes of both the environment and the inner organization factors, there are contradictions between organization structures and organization factors. Thus they impact the efficiency and effect of the organization functions and prevent the aims of organization from fulfilling. Problems are on the horizon, and many architectural design firms are looking for reform.With the direct application of systemotology and the comparative research, the thesis focus on study of the large architectural design firms in Hangzhou. With the study of the basic model of organization structure of the firms as the standing point and breakthrough, I analyzed the relationship between the organization; factors; structures and the functions to find out the ways and methods of transformation and optimization of the organization structure of the architectural design firms.First of all, I introduced the general information about the organization structure and the organization factors of the European and American architectural design firms. Followed by the information about the architectural design firms in Hangzhou and the 3 organization structure models:professional offices; comprehensive offices and semi-comprehensive offices. Then, with the representative cases of 3 models, I summarized the basic characteristics and problems of them. Having further analized the relationship between organization factors, functions and organization models, I educed the rules, methods, ways, models and so on to optimize the organization structure.At the end of the thesis, some prospects were discussed in order to further deepen and broaden the research on this subject.
