With the development of modern logistics industry, container terminal as an important logistics hub has developed rapidly. However, the great amount of container service volume brings about the inadequate processing capacity of container terminal. If the configuration of handling equipment is reasonable, the processing capacity of container terminal can be improved, and the operating costs of container terminal can be reduced. And then the conflict between the increase of the container service volume and the inadequate processing capacity can be solved. So the reasonable configuration of handling equipment is of important significance for actual operation of container terminal. Therefore, the optimization for configuration of handling equipment is studied in the paper based on agility, queuing system model of container terminal is established. Further, the simulation model of container terminal logistics operating system is built using ExtendSim. The main works of the study are as follows:Firstly, the configuration of handling equipment in container terminal is studied based on agile. Agility is the advanced development stage of fourth generation, and is also the future development trend of container terminal. So with the guidance of agility, relevant measures are proposed for resource allocation, which provide effective support for the realization of agile port. Moreover, optimal target of configuration of handling equipment in container terminal is chosen based on agility. The resulting optimal configuration proposals can response to customer demand quickly.Secondly, overall configuration of handling equipment in container terminal is studied. From the system and integrated perspective, the handling equipment is treated as a whole. Therefore, the system is analyzed under queuing system theory, and queuing system model of container terminal is established. According to queuing system model, the simulation model of container terminal logistics operating system is built using ExtendSim. And in the simulation model, the speed of container trailer is taken into consideration. Thus, the operating condition of container terminal logistics is effectively simulated under the overall allocation of resources.Finally, the configuration of handling equipment in container terminal is optimized. Response Surface Methodology (RSM) is applied to the optimization. D optimal test plan is designed. Then with test plan combined with simulation results, response surface model can be fitted between ship operating time and optimal variables. Optimal resource allocation scheme is obtained. Comparing optimal scheme with initial scheme, Ship operating time is reduced by 32%, which show the correctness of the optimal resource scheme. All these optimal schemes provide theoretical reference and practical guidance for manager of container terminal to make decisions.
