An Empirical Study Of Counties' Economic Discrepancy In Zhejiang Province

Regional economic discrepancy is a universal problem and a heated topic in the economic development of every country. Zhejiang province is one of the most prosperous provinces in our country. 26 counties of Zhejiang province entered into the list of 100 top powerful counties in China in 2008 to be the top one among all provinces all over the country. Although Zhejiang province is well-known powerful in economy from this aspect, the economic discrepancy among the counties has been extending meanwhile. This paper makes a deep research on the economic discrepancy of Zhejiang province from the angle of counties, gradually knows the change process and characteristics of regional differences all over the province and finally finds out the reasons of the change, which has a great significance to boost the sustainable and harmonious development of the county economy in Zhejiang province.Through the analysis of time-series change, the author has discovered that both absolute difference and relative difference had extended as time goes by, and the regional economy polarization has strengthened. The "convergence club" phenomenon has appeared too accordingly. Through the analysis of space change characteristics, the author has discovered that the primary reason of the extended economic discrepancy in Zhejiang province is the inequality among the 58 counties in the province. The most of developed counties lie in the northeast Zhejiang province. The most of undeveloped counties lie in the southest of Zhejiang and islands of Zhoushan and Wenzhou city. Through the integrated analysis of county economy difference of Zhejiang province, the factors which caused the county economic discrepancy had been found. They are geographical environment, locality and transportation, fixed assets ivestment, industrial structure, foreign direct investment. Based on the systematic analysis of regional economy difference and influencing factors of Zhejiang province, the author consider that it could be commenced form 3 aspects as follows: optimize space structure, enhance industrial competitiveness, strengthen the government macro control, to promote the coordinate development of county economic discrepancy in Zhejiang province.This thesis divides into 6 chapters altogether. Chapter one to three summarize correlative concepts, theoretics and measures of regional economic discrepancy on the foundation of expoundation of research background, meaning and the research state in home and abroad and about Zhejiang province. Chapter four to five analyze the time-series change and space change of the economic discrepancy of Zhejiang province and analyze the economic discrepancy through collecting, arranging and analyzing the initial data, choose 29 indexes and use the SPSS analytical method to carry on the fator analysis on the 58 counties in Zhejiang province, and class these counties as well as analyze the factors which induced the economic discrepancy. Chapter 6 brings forward countermeasures to promote the coordinate development of Zhejiang province.
