The project terms of the typical project of expressway of mountain area are generally comparatively complicated. Its engineering cost characteristic changes a great deal to the area of plain. And factors influencing engineering cost are more complicated. Meanwhile, interaction and relation between the influence factors are outstanding. However, traditional research of analysis influence factor and engineering cost characteristic of highway regard macroscopic perspective as more starting points and driving the key element in three-dimension as the core. And it carried on qualitative analysis to the factor influencing engineering cost from different stages of construction projects. Then, it put forward the corresponding measure of controlling the engineering cost rationally. But there is certain limitation while carrying on more accurate, more objective analysis on cost characteristic of highway engineering of mountain area of analysis in this kind of research approach.The purpose of the article is to analyze deeply and accurately profound level and melt on the engineering cost characteristic and factors of influencing engineering cost, and to promote level in the course of managing fabrication cost. On the basis of analyzing typical project characteristic of expressway of mountain area, this text constructs two type indexes: the characteristic index of the project quantity that show the characteristic sign of unit quantity of material object, and economic characteristic index of technology which show the quality characteristic sign of material object. According to the problem of analyzing the influences of the highway engineering cost, the paper reconstructs a model about the engineering cost characteristic which is based on project quantity and project changes. It changes traditional way of analyzing the influences of the highway engineering cost, and urge key element upgrade three-dimension to four-dimension urge. This text proposes that interaction exists between the numerous factors of influencing engineering cost of mountain area expressway. One factor influence the engineering cost by other factors frequently. That is to say each influence factor has direct influence on the cost of the project and influences function indirectly. Based on this, this text construct the analysis theory based on path analysis on the influence key element of cost of the project, and put forward the method to makes a quantitative analysis of the problem about direct influence and influencing indirectly of cost characteristic and the factors on the engineering cost. Taking roadbed earthwork of the mountainous expressway as an example, Taking roadbed earthwork of the mountainous expressway as an example, the paper has drawn the path analysis chart directly of influence factor of engineering cost of roadbed earthwork on the mountainous expressway, and analysis the engineering cost influence factor of the roadbed earthwork of the mountainous expressway by the analysis theory based on path analysis on the influence key element of cost of the project constructed. The analysis results indicate that it has purpose and effectiveness even more in analyzing cost characteristic, and can be more ocular, more accurate embodying function result and influence degree to cost of the project of each influence factor by the analysis theory based on path analysis on the influence key element of cost of the project.
