Agriculture and agriculture economy are quite hot issues. Among these is the relationship between food crops and the export crops. In this paper, by identifying the three categories of factors, I will make an integrated analysis of main factors to examine their different functions in determining the plantation of certain crops and try to find out the difference between the roles of these factors. Also, some different methods will be introduced. The primary sources used in this thesis include Changing Economy in Indonesia: a selection of statistical source material from the early 19th century up to 1940, Koloniaal Verslag, Landbouwatlas van Java en Madoera (Agricultural atlas of Java and Madura). The structure of the thesis is as follows.Chapter 1. IntroductionChapter 2. The main trends of the production of the four cropsChapter 3. The role of permanent factors in crop-productionChapter 4. Variables: quantifiable and unquantifiableChapter 5. Random factors: a pattern of modificationChapter 6. ConclusionThe initial conclusions are three kinds of factors played different roles. Permanent factors determine the distribution of cultivated areas and the seasonality of production. Variables are the dynamic in influencing the production, and they are the most direct and effective factors. But the extent of variables is different according to different crops. Random factors impose the sudden or drastic change in crop-production.
