With the development of national economy, small and medium enterprises especially the private ones will play more and more important role in national economy. The private enterprise has not only some peculiar strengths but also many weaknesses such as the will of the enterprise owners always replaces of the enterprise rules, which results in the performance assessment built by HR useless. The main reason lies in not only distrust between the owner and the manager but also the impractical or nonstandard assessment system itself, which makes incentive system futile, employee run off, competitive capability weaken and at last influence the development of enterprise. At present, there are lots of studies working on the theory of performance management of private enterprises, but there is little literature about case study of performance management. Company S which the author works for is a representative private enterprise; its assessment system of performance management is very imperfect. Although an assessment system has been built in 2007, there are lots of problems in the process of implementation. Therefore study on the performance management system of Company S will be very significant not only for Company S itself but also other similar private enterprises.On the basis of the actual circumstance of Company S, this paper analyses the existing problems of performance management and studies the improvement of the system by using modern theory and tools of human resource management. Some concrete thoughts, solutions and suggests are also proposed in this paper, and based on these a new performance assessment system is designed. It is wished through this study a referenced case will be provided for private enterprises performance management.
