The Visualization Analysis For The Development Conditions Of Research Fields

Conditions of research fields mainly include the identification of the interdisciplinary fusion identification of hotspot subject,and the developing state of research area.The analysis for the condition of the research fields can help the management of research organizations to find the state of research fields,to mine the research fronts,to analyze the intercross and to provide the prediction of the trends of integration and division of research fields,which guide the researchers,make contribution to the establishment of the research program and make the research organizations run more efficient and effective.Using Information Visualization and Text Mining,we present a visualization approach to analyze the developing state of basic research area according to project proposal data from 2000 to 2005,especially for focusing area,the interdisciplinary fusion and the development trend of the future research.The kernel work of this paper can be generalized as four aspects as follows:(1) Present a visualization process.Propose a visualization approach to analyze the state of research fields and optimize the FR graph layout algorithm.Improve the performance of the FR algorithm through setting up a new parameter to distribute the nodes more evenly and mush easier to read.(2) Analyze the status of research fields and identify the hotspot.The category-net chart analyzes the relations of the subjects for a certain year and the isolated node may be the less attractive area.The cluster-net chart gives a good view of hotspot and its relations.(3) Analyze the evolution of research fields.The time-sequence charts generate a visualization of the developing trend and the interdisciplinary fusion of the research fields based on the 2000-2005 data,which can get a better view through changing the value of the edges.(4) Analyze the cross-proposals problems between different departments of the related research management organization with the visualization approach,which identify the cross-proposal through various shapes of the vertexes and lines.(5) Ultimately,we testify the practicality of our approach and show the implementation of the visual analysis through a case study through a generic visualization tool which generates visualizations implementation of the visual analysis of the proposals.
