China fully opened the finance industry according to the commitment as the WTO member on December 11, 2006. The domestic banking industry faced more than opportunities but challenge and competition. In recent years, structural changes took place in the domestic financial market, such as the interest rate market orientation, the RMB exchange rate reform, the capital market development and the disintermediation, which forced the domestic banking industry to change its inherent business model to the profit model which continuously increases the ratio of intermediary business income. The foreign exchange business (international business) is a powerful weapon for increasing intermediary business income as it uses less capital, has good capacity of earning and takes less risk. Therefore, more efforts have been put into that business, thus competition of this field is getting fiercer.Although the foreign exchange business in China Construction Bank Corporation Xiamen Branch (CCBXM) has been developing since it started in 1986, yet there is a gap between Bank of China Xiamen Branch (BOCXM) and CCBXM on the market share of foreign exchange business. And CCBXM's market share is almost equal to that of Agricultural Bank of China Xiamen Branch (ABCXM). In order to be the top in all fields, foreign exchange business should be accelerated to develop.The thesis analyzes the external and internal environment of foreign exchange business of CCBXM and applies series of analytical and selective tools to deduce the competitive strategy -products developmentā€”in the foreign exchange business market. Although the case of CCBXM is a special case, it is a representative and typical case on the selection and implementation of competitive strategy and can serve as an example for other branches of China Construction Bank Corporation. Therefore, the thesis has theoretical and practical meaning to some extent.
