| Club convergence analysis provides a more realistic and detailed picture than traditional convergence analysis. Using techniques of spatial panel data model, we study club convergence of per capital GDP for 31 provinces and cities in China from 1978-2006. Because China carries out reform open policy gradually by stages, different region's economic influence existence very big differences. So we divide three stages to discuss, respectively is: 1978-1991,1992-1999,2000-2006. The research result indicates: China regional economies growth existence spatial dependence, neglect the spatial effect will create model hypothesis deviation and result non-scientific nature. 1978-1991 and 1992-1999 eastern,middle and western have the club convergence phenomenon. Showing the development strategy which lets some areas get rich first, creates three big regions economic gaps expansion from the 80s, presents the rich area to be richer, poor place poorer phenomenon. 2000-2006 three big regions do not have the club convergence phenomenon, this is because in recent years the central committee carries out the region coordinated development strategy, reduce the area development disparity. |
