The construction industry is a cornerstone industry and also an important part of the national economy. Construction projects are characterized by high risks, complex environment, multi-participants, and large investments. As a consequence, the possibility of disputes that happen in construction projects is higher than those in other projects. Moreover, disputes would bring great losses to all parties involved, and have a negative impact on the stability of the whole society. However, with the increase of the investments in infrastructures and the intensification of competition in construction industry, there is an upward trend in the amount of disputes. Therefore, researches on construction disputes and the prevention policies have become an important topic. It is of considerably theoretical significance and practical value to the management of construction projects.Based on theoretical researches and the analysis of the status quo of construction projects, the author brings up several important strategies to prevent and resolve the disputes in construction projects. The whole dissertation is divided into three parts:1. Theoretical research on construction projects' risk identification and risk response, which lay a solid theoretical and methodological foundation for further research on construction project disputes and solutions.2. Research on status quo of construction disputes existing in the six phases of the implementation of a construction project, including: feasibility study, design management, bid, contract, implementation contract, and the settlement of the construction project. This research points out a correct direction to prevent and resolve construction disputes.3. Based on the analysis of disputes existing in the six phases of the implementation of construction projects, which is integrated with risk management theories and practical management of construction projects, the author brings up strategies to prevent and resolve construction project disputes.This dissertation aims to research on the causes, characters, prevention, and resolutions of construction project disputes in China. The ultimate purpose is to bring up countermeasures and suggestions in order to improve the management of construction projects in our country.
