With the development of globalization and knowledge economy since 1990's, the organizational environment has deeply changed. The emphasis is on unpredictably internal and external organization mobility, unstable and changeful organizational environment in the era of the boundaryless career. Currently, to strengthen employees' career adaptability consciously will be helpful to their career success; therefore, it becomes a new trend for organizational human resources development and management. At the individual level, based on the problems of the former researches (i.e. uncertain measurement of adaptability, lack of relevant empirical research, controversy of career success standard), this study investigated the importance of career adaptability in understanding employees' career success in the cultural background of China.This paper is based on research personnel of several software companies in Dalian and Shanghai and uses questionnaire survey and statistics analysis to conduct the research. It analyses 166 questionnaires by SPSS13.0 mainly through exploratory factor analysis, descriptive analysis, and linear regression analysis, etc. The paper tries to find out how career adaptability predicts career success. Major results can be concluded as follows:1. Revised career adaptability scale is of high reliability and construct validity;2. Some demographic variables have effect on career success;3. There is a significantly positive correlation between career adaptability and career success;4. Career adaptability can predict career success effectively and further dominance analyses indicate that proactive personality and boundaryless mindset are of equal importance when predicting career success.The conclusions above enrich the study on career adaptability and career success under Chinese culture background in recent years. The paper is expected to provide guidance for companies and individuals in their career management practice.
