A Study On Sustainable Development Of The Profitable Agriculture In Shanxi

In order to achieve the sustainable development of profitable agriculture in Shanxi Province, to realize the industrialization of agriculture, to increase the added value of agriculture products, to elevate the commercial rate of agricultural products, to make the best use of scale advantages, and to increase the economic and social benefit, the methods of obtaining sustainable development of profitable economy in Shanxi were studied in this paper in the scenario of increasing emphasis on and support to issues of agriculture, farmer and rural area by the Chinese government (the Three Agriculture-related issues). After referring to a large body of literature and finding the problems and finding the problems emerged during the agricultural development in Shanxi, combining the macro- and micro- views, the methods of field work and consultation with the experts, and the strategic and tactic points of view, the essential factors of profitable agriculture and the external conditions required for its sustainable development in the Province are analyzed; the modes of development for profitable agriculture in different types of area in Shanxi and key industries suitable for the Province's development are proposed.The connotations of sustainable development of profitable agriculture are defined in the paper and the problems appear during the development of agriculture recently in Shanxi analyzed. Due to the limitations in arable land and water and other natural resources, the agricultural production is limited. The demands for food could not be met and the gap between production and demand has not been bridged. To address these problems, the essential factors of profitable agriculture should include high quality crop strains, green agriculture products, arid agriculture, water-saving engineering and mechanized-protective cultivation, etc. These factors are also analyze. The information on external conditions such as technical and financial supports in Shanxi is also studied carefully. The modes and directions of agricultural development in different agricultural systems (i.e. the suburban industrial and mineral areas, traditional agricultural areas and agricultural areas with fragile eco-environment) are analyzed. The directions of agricultural development and actions should be taken in the above-mentioned areas are proposed as follows:Tourism agriculture, installation agriculture and high-quality and efficient agriculture should be developed in suburban industrial and mineral areas.In traditional agricultural areas, multi-industry agriculture including livestock husbandry is preferred to increase the processing depth, to modify the traditional agriculture, to elongate the industrial chain of growing-raising-processing in agriculture, thus to increase the added value of agricultural products.In agricultural areas with fragile eco-environment, the project of returning cultivated land into forest or grass should be implemented forcefully. At the same time, special agriculture, livestock husbandry and processing of agricultural products should be developed sturdily in addition to enhancing the construction of farmland and ensuring the self-sufficiency of food. Emphasis is put on special miscellaneous grains, particular livestock, green vegetables and dried and fresh fruits for the sustainable development of profitable agriculture in Shanxi Province.
