Management Of Global R&D Project In Trane

With the economic globalization, global design project is becoming a tendency in today's global business environment. The global design offers the potential opportunities in marketing, sourcing, reliability, aftermarket and personnel utilization.The consistent design platform makes maximum utilization of mature technology, short design cycle and design cost. Global process control change to maintain consistent product help to improve reliability, and more justification of resources. The consistent design simplifies purchasing decisions for global customers and reduces operation/maintenance cost. Regional manufacturing will contribute cost reduction in whole range of product. Global design also gives the opportunity for global material sourcing and parts purchasing to reduce their cost finally will transfer that value to end user.This thesis is composed of seven chapters. The first chapter is general introduction of global R &D and the methodology. The second chapter introduces Trane business and scope, history and development and the its consequence core competitiveness. The third chapter review on global R&D management to illustrate the benefit and challenge of global design project. The forth chapter introduce the existing conditions of global design for Trane and analyze potential benefits of global design, include organization, IT platform and integrated system-NPI process. The fifth chapter study of a current global design project of Trane and review on main stage to find the management issues of global design project. The sixth chapter analyzes the main problem with 7S model to identify the opportunity of improvement. The final chapter conducts the conclusion and give several recommend to Trane for further global design project. And it can be a reference for companies in other industry who will adopt global design strategy.
