After China's joining in the WTO, the retail industry becomes one of the industries that are most open and most competitive. On Nov. 11,2004, according to the commitment made under the WTO, China has already removed the limit to foreign commerce in region, stock and number, which means our retail industry has passed the transition period and will be wholly open.This article analyzes and summerizes the development strategies and theories of relevant domestic and foreign retail enterprises. After carefully probing the business strategies of Wal-Mart and Carrefour, the author reveals the experience of these retail giants for Baida to benefit from. Meanwhile, the author examines carefully the history and the status quo of Baida, followed by the analysis of the eonomic environment and the competition environment in which Baida grows, the status quo of its rivals, as well as its own weaknesses and strengths. Based on these analysis, the author also proposes feasible ideas for Baida's development and realization of its strategic goals. The author thinks Baida should adopt modern managing mode and advanced managing concept, attach importance to the development of the human resources, and value its long-term strategic partners, so that it can develop its own enterprise culture and realize its strategic goals. The author hopes Baida can provide some beneficial exploitation experience for Chinese national enterprises so that they would not lose to foreign rivals in future commercial competions. Finally, the author summerizes the main points of the article and his look into the future.
