With rapid development of modern logistics industry, traditional transportation enterprises have began to explore patterns and countermeasures of integrating into modern logistics. As one of the major transportation modes in China, railway transportation is the main artery of national economy and the large enterprise of state-owned monopoly. However, due to the fast development of highway and air transportation, freight market is confronted with more vigorous competition. Railway freight transportation service can no more meet the needs of modern logistics development, so it should be transformed to modern logistics.Wuwei south station is a premium station within the authority of Lanzhou Railway Bureau. Based on the analysis of the inner and outer environment of the station, this thesis analyzes the developmental strategies of the Third-Party Logistics for the station according to which some implementation measures are proposed at the same time.This paper summarizes development status quo and trends of railway freight at home and abroad primarily. It discusses basic theories of logistics and third part logistics and concepts of domestic railway transportation and railway freight yard, points out differences between railway transportation and third part logistics and analyzes the necessity of transformation from railway freight service to third part logistics. According to the practice of freight transportation in Wuwei south railway station of Lanzhou bureau, the paper analyzes its present situation and freight service and then the external environment analysis and SWOT analysis of third part logistics development in railway station. It analyzes advantages, disadvantages, opportunities and threats of freight development in railway station from the aspects of trends of modern logistics development and railway freight. combined with the real situation of the station, the author suggests that the implementation measures for the strategies of the station in developing the Third-Party Logistics are to adopt the Third-Party Logistics service, to strengthen the cooperation of the customers and to consummate the internet as well as improve the ability of the human resource.
