With constant change and deepening of the work nature and demand in land department, applies GIS software to land management to help the daily work increasingly manifests its value. By advanced GIS and Internet networking technology, deepening the information construction in land management is of great significance to further enhance the standardization level and to promote healthy, orderly development of land management.Considering the special superiority and significance of applying GIS to land management, this paper discusses and studies the deep application of GIS in land management. The paper takes the demonstration application project in Shanghai Pudong information construction -"Pudong land management information system" as an example, which uses the technology of Tomcat to release map service under B/S construction by the development environment of ArcIMS. The system, based on WebGIS, is developed in Java language. It realizes the function that land planning results, land using status, cadastre information, construction land, illegal land is managed, as well as map is located and information is dynamically inquired. It achieves the goal that standard, flowing and network service is provided by GIS for land management, decision-making and related business. It lays the foundation for office automation and information construction of Shanghai.Along with new technology's development and application's deepening, the application of GIS in land management will certainly convert from complexity to simplicity, from large-scale to small-scale, from aggregation to dispersion. It becomes an important tool for business work. Simultaneously, the deep processing by GIS to the essential data and the humanities, environment and transportation data in land management may move toward the society.
