| With its geographical location, people living in Guangxi have been in wide contact with the vast sea since the ancient times, which has made them come to know more about the sea, so that their own history was created in the process of making use of the sea. Thus, we can say that they have a very deep affection for the blue sea. As the earliest Chinese trade port of"Marine Silk Road", the coast-land in Guangxi province once enjoyed its prosperity, which was the great achievement in Guangxi history. However, after the founding of new China, the Guangxi Coast, the hot front area in the cold war era, would have to shoulder the national defense mission, experiencing the test of the flames of the war, as a result of which the development of Guangxi was far off the sea in this period. After the cold war ended, Guangxi took on a new look in its development. The Guangxi people started to get close to the blue sea. And with the construction of the Southwest Highway to the sea, the Coast changed gradually from the military front to the economic development front. With the planning of"the Eleventh Five-year Plan", Guangxi will realize its dream of developing from inland to sea and the Guangxi people's blue-sea dream will come true in the new millennium. In the light of this, based on the widespread collection of related literature materials and aiming at the front of Guangxi's development, this paper recalls the evolution of Guangxi people's sea consciousness since the founding of the People's Republic of China. While carding the veins of the sea development in Guangxi, this paper also goes to the historical causes and the regularity of the change on people's marine consciousness. In addition, it also analyzes the Guangxi people's different sea consciousness in the different periods and its impact on Guangxi's economy as well, striving to reveal from the indigenous standpoint the intrinsic power that makes Guangxi head for the sea and hoping to realize the combination of academic concern and reality concern on the occasion when Guangxi is seeking the development depending on the sea. This paper consists of five parts which are listed as follows:Part I: IntroductionThis part includes not only the significance of this paper, the definitions of relevant concepts, the status quo of the study, research ideas and methods, but also the innovative and weak aspects of this paper as well.Part II: Loss of blue-sea concept– the cooling of Guangxi people's marine awareness during the cold war (1949-1991)This part mainly deals with the fact that Guangxi, the forefront of the war, had to serve the war and failed to become a stage for economic exchanges. At that time, Guangxi had to implement the strategy of developing far away from the sea due to its responsibility of guarding the forefront. Thus, in this period the marine development in Guangxi is characterized by"approaching the sea but ignoring the sea". As a result, during this period, the Guangxi people had poor awareness of the sea, which had great impact on the development of marine economy in Guangxi.Part III: Return of blue-sea consciousness– the recovery of people's awareness of the sea during the peace and development era (1992-2005)Since the cold war ended, the world had walked into the era of peace and development, and the development of the sea had became the focus of the world competition and development. With the improvement of the relationship between China and Vietnam, the Guangxi Coast had moved from the sea of war to the sea of cooperation and development. The Guangxi people kept pace with the times, taking the strategy of developing the sea. Serving as a channel from the Southwest out to the sea, the Guangxi Coast had transformed from a forefront of national defense to an economic development forefront."Approaching the sea, living on the sea, developing the sea, and sailing to the sea"were the main features of how people developed the sea in this period. This symbolizes the recovery of their marine awareness, laying a good ideological foundation for the Guangxi people to develop the sea in an all-round way and develop economy relying on the sea.Part IV: Rise of blue-sea awareness–-the deeper understanding of the sea in the new marine age (2006 -)This part introduces Guangxi people's deeper understanding of the sea. They claim"rooting in the sea, integrating the power of the sea, exploring the potential of the sea, and casting the soul of the sea", that is, making full use of the coastal advantages, vigorously developing marine economy, and closely linking the development of the whole social economy with the sea, thus implementing the strategy of exploring the sea in an all-round way. The Guangxi Coast shoulders the mission of China's new economic development area and is going from an economic passage up to a new height of economic development. The new marine concept of"relying on the sea, utilizing the sea scientifically, achieving sustainable marine development and human-sea harmony" in the new marine age reflects the sublimation of Guangxi people's marine awareness, which will contribute to the development of marine economy in Guangxi.Part IV: ConclusionThis part deals with the summary of the main points of view in this paper. This paper mainly demonstrates the evolution of strategic position of the Guangxi Coast since the founding of the People's Republic of China from the defense forefront to the passage of the southwest out to the sea and to the China's new economic development area. In addition, this paper also discusses the evolution of Guangxi people's marine behaviors during this period from living by the sea but knowing nothing about the sea to sailing to the sea and then to the all-round exploration of the sea. Moreover, it also goes to the evolution of people's marine awareness from the loss of blue-sea concept to the recovery of blue-sea awareness and then to the sublimation of blue-sea consciousness. The paper tries to reveal the historic processes of the Guangxi's development from inland to sea, from closing to opening. The Guangxi people have long been in close contact with the blue sea and have a deep love for it, so the loss of marine consciousness for decades is only a short memory for the people in Guangxi. It is not only the course of Guangxi's blue-sea development, but also a reflection of irresistibility of human's walking toward the marine age. Marine consciousness is the soul of the people living near the sea. Therefore, the return of Guangxi people's marine awareness will no doubt further make them reach identity of view on the sea, then improving people's marine behaviors, which is a spiritual incentive to the development of marine economy in Guangxi. |
