Product Design And Design Evaluation Based On Value Engineering

The basic elements of value engineering are function and cost. Function is the essence of user needs, and is the foundation for the existence of products. Cost is the total amount of materialing labor and living labor, and it is products'material features embodying in the basis of the economy. Therefore, the design of the products is the design of relation between function and cost. Product evaluation is the evaluation of relation between function and cost. Regardless of it is design or product evaluation, it will involve product level, composition elements, user needs, motivations, buying behavior and other factors. Based on these factors accurately analysis, with the basic ideas of value engineering, it is extended to the satisfaction theory. Satisfaction theory more clearly define the cost as the same demand as a function, and cost in the decision-making, has power and subjective issues. The most satisfied one means the most suitable one, which is a comprehensive decision-making of the consumer who regards function, cost, demands, the objective conditions, and so on as a whole.On the basis of deeply analysis of value engineering and satisfaction theory, the author attempts to seek for more effective, feasible procedures, steps, methods of the product design and evaluation. By the ways of questionnaire survey, interview, model analysis and so on, we adapt the methods of product design and evaluation, which we get in the thesis, into nail-clipper and tube sheet cases.
