Freeway as a modern traffic form, since 1988 China's first freeway was built, during the 20 years of its fast, safe, efficient advantage, develop rapidly, and achieve the tremendous achievements that have attracted worldwide attention. Freeway as the backbone of transport network will greatly promote China's social and economic development. The freeway networks accelerate the process of regional socioeconomic adaptability. Freeway problems gradually become the important issues of general concern. In the study of adaptation problems, the regional freeway socioeconomic adaptability theory and method of evaluation research still in the exploratory stage. Therefore, analysis the regional socioeconomic adaptability evaluation method is important to formulate the scientific development strategies and plan, rational utilization of highway construction investment, and promote the coordination of traffic and the socio-economic integration.This paper analyses from the characteristics of freeway space perspective, using of systems engineering theory. After analyzing the China's freeway construction and regional socioeconomic development, combination the technical and economic characteristics of the highway, bring forward from the socioeconomic adaptability to regional freeway issues from both overall interests of the region and the internal structure. After analysis the existing evaluation methods in-depth, try to improve the urban gravitational model, using principal component analysis, build a new adaptability model of regional freeway for the socioeconomic evaluation. Finally, using the Hubei Provincial freeway construction and socioeconomic development data verify the new model. Comparing the results of the evaluation with the traditional model - data envelopment analysis method, show that the evaluation method is practical, and the evaluation results are more objective and rational.
