As a comprehensive system of economic society and natural ecology, Land is the basic factors of production and development of human activities. Traditional model of development for benefit maximization brings in not only dramatic economic development but also ecological problems. Therefore, scientific and reasonable evaluation of land socioeconomic ecology benefit in the study area will provide helpful references for practical and sustainable land use and will be of great practical significance.The research takes Yichuan county of Yanan as the study area, which is locaed in the typical hilly and gully distributions on the Loess Plateau. On the basis of land connotation idea, the evaluation index system of land socioeconomic ecology benefit is to be constructed. This system will adopt ArcGIS technology to extract the basic data of evaluation index, and then to proceed them in a standardrized way. During this process, multi-factor weighted sum method is being used to study the general evaluation of the land socioeconomic ecology benefit in the study area. According to the above evalution result, the distribution characteristics in different grade zone spaces and the main factors influencing those characteristics are being analyzed. The land ecological protection zone will be marked out. Meanwhile, the suggestions and strategies of land use to different protection zones are being put forward, which will offer referenc frame to the land magistrators in Yichuan County. The main conclusions are as follows:1. An evaluation index system consisting of 2 criterion layers of natural ecological subsystem and land socioeconomic subsystem, and 9 index layers is being established. The land ecological subsystem selects such four factors as vegetation coverage, water coverage, diversity of land use structure; the land socioeconomic subsystem selects such five factors as population density, per capita arable land area, grain crop yield, The proportion of construction land and per capita income of farmers. The above two subsystems will adopt ArcGIS technology and multi-factor weighted sum method to evaluate the land socioeconomic ecology benefit of 202 administrative villages in Yichuan County.2. The comprehensive evaluation result of land socioeconomic ecology benefit in Yichuan County indicates that the lands in the basins of Xianchuan Rivers are generally of high quality, the loess plateau ruins are the next and the west and south are basicly inferior. This is mainly due to the backward development caused by the local topography and transportation. Yichuan county owns 5275.39 hectare firs-class land area, which is about 1.80% of total land area, covering 17 administrative villages; the area of 39771.18 hectares is of second class, which is 13.56% of total land area, covering 41 administrative villages; and the third-class land covers 37176.12 hectares, which is 12.67% of total land area and involves 57 administrative villages; and the forth-class land covers 43907.03 hectares, which is 14.97% of total land area and involves 67 administrative villages; and the fifth-class land covers 21860.28 hectares, which is 7.45% of total land area and involves 20 administrative villages.3. By analyzing the comprehensive evaluation spatial distribution of the land socioeconomic ecology benefit, and taking into account such factors as the river systems, traffic, land use planning in Yichuan County, land use protection zone can be partitioned. Three categories of zones will be marked out, and they are coordination zone, optimization zone and restriction zone. The coordination zone is suitable for controlling the scale of construction land, generally renovating the land, revitalizing the stocked construction land and improving the intensive utilization rate of the construction land. All of these are to focus on the sustainable development of the natural resource proctection and social economy protection. Optimization zone is suitable for reasonably planning the land lay-out, reducing the influence from human being’s activities on ecology, which should center on the development of modern agriculture. Restriction zone is suitable for immigration planning, centralized settlement and hillside closure, which should mainly develop ecological welfare foret and natural resources tourism.
