Many factors, which contribute to the success of a R&D project, are to be found in the process of the project. The few documents on project termination mainly focus on the evaluation method. But actually the exploration of influencing factors is the principal basis for project evaluation, because the proper selection of these factors will directly affect the quality of project evaluation.The thesis, employing systematic theory, studies R&D project in enterprises in three administrative levels, makes an overall analysis of the cycle characteristics of R&D projects on the basis of cycle theory, sums up the principles for cycle analysis and decision of projects according to the characteristics in different status of system and different stage in life cycle. Based on the study of 46 practical R&D projects in Tangshan, a primary collection of factors in the process of R&D projects is selected, statistical approaches asχ2-Test and T-Test are used for further selecting and optimizing of these elements, out of which twenty-four critical factors have been chosen. The critical factors coincide with the reasons for the success or failure of practical projects in sample data, which demonstrates the validity of this analysis method. Taking this as the basis, the thesis designs a pattern identification model for synthetical evaluation of R&D projects employing BP neural network, then a restricted BP neural network is conducted to improve the adaptability of the model; and further more, related elements are classified into groups through Factor Analysis Approach, therefore the reasons why a project is fail can be presented clearly. Through comprehensive analysis, the thesis further clarifies the direction of program management and provides effective methods for evaluating and controlling projects.Based on theoretical analysis and practical investigation, it's cleared that: The management of R&D projects in modern enterprise should has two features, auto-adaptability to outer environment and auto-maintainability to keep balance of inner system. Factors, leading the project to success or failure, vary in accordance with country, region or industry. Enterprises can build their own database on R&D projects accordingly, gather appropriate factor-collection, set up evaluation model through statistical analysis, and provide references for management and control of R&D projects. |
