Study On Space Shape And Development In Urban Fringe Area Of Zhengzhou City

The study about urban fringe area began in the early 1970s in foreign countries and has now become a main topic in the abroad academic field. In recent years, with China's efforts to intensify the development and construction of small cities and towns, China's urban planning scholars has made a series of important achievements in the research of urbanization and urban system, but the study on urban fringe area has just begun.Since the reform and opening up, China has been greatly accelerated the process of urbanization, population, capital, technology, information and other elements quickly gather in large cities, urban fringe areas has also become the key areas that large and medium-sized cities proliferate. It is for this reason, this zone turns into the most problematic and sensitive area that changes the largest and develop the most rapidly, a key region to the future development of city. At the same time, the traditional urban-suburbs dichotomy has been unable to meet the modern urban fringe planning, construction, management and research requirement, there is an urgent need to strengthen the research of urban fringe areas.Zhengzhou City is the capital of Henan Province, the country's major transportation and communications hub, an open historical and cultural city, an important business and financial centre of the central region. Since liberation, the building of Zhengzhou City has developed rapidly. Before liberation, the built area of Zhengzhou City is only 5.23km2and the population is 164,000. To 1991, the built area has expanded to 90km2, the population rose to 1.18 million, Zhengzhou entered the ranks of mega-cities. By the end of 2006, the built area has reached to 282km2, population increased to 2.80 million. Particularly since the 1990s, Zhengzhou City rapid socio-economic development, population, economy, land use indicators has broken through the objectives of original master plan. The development of Zhengzhou City's fringe area is very rapid, but still lacks basic theoretical research, this is the original intention of this thesis.In this paper, I used urban planning theories, urban geography, urban economics, and other modern theories of urban fringe area synthetically and introduced the home and abroad study background, meaning, theory (Section I, Section II). Then through field survey and information enquiries, made preliminary structural analysis and theoretical studies on urban fringe area of Zhengzhou City(Section 3), and then outlined the evolution of the space shape of Zhengzhou City fringe area and analysed the rule of space evolution (Section 4), finally explored Zhengzhou City future urbanization process and urban fringe sustainable development (Section 5).
