Most previous researches on the entry of foreign-funded banks were from a macroeconomic perspective. This paper, with a microeconomic view, systematically assesses and analyses a series of real business strategies of the foreign-funded banks, such as organizational choice, regional distribution, business competition, customer segmentation and co-operation with Chinese banks. The article particularly concerns of dynamic characteristics of foreign-funded banks' strategies at various stages, and the in-depth study of the Citibank's strategies is based on the analysis of foreign-funded banks as a group.The paper puts out five opinions as following: (1) From local to national, from foreign currency to local currency, from foreign residents to its population, foreign-fund banks continuously adjust their operating strategies that perfectly adapt to the opening-up policy of China's banking sector. (2) Having gathered in the Yangtze River Delta, the Pearl River Delta and the Bohai Economic Circle, foreign-fund banks' distribution radiates to the surrounding areas and focuses on the central cities of the highly-developed regions. (3) Foreign-fund banks in different stages of their development have selected the corresponding organizational forms, and have focused on four major business areas including intermediate business, foreign exchange, RMB business and internet banking business. They have cultivated their high-end customers in the areas of corporate banking and personal banking. (4) Based on the co-operative and competitive relationship with Chinese banks, foreign-fund banks extensively co-operate with them using several models such as joint venture banks by foreign banks, joint ventures, equity participation in the bank and lease alliance. (5) Citibank's strategies are representative among foreign-fund banks and its market value and philosophy of customer service could enlighten the Chinese banks as to adjust their business strategies.
