The Study On Urban Competitiveness Of Yangtze River Delta Region

With the acceleration of the integration process of global economy and the prominent roles of cities in country and region economy, the competition of cities becomes more intense. Therefore, the study on urban competitiveness has the extremely vital significance to the development of cities and even the region where cities located in, and has already became the most significant practical subject of the current city strategy.Due to its developed economy and so many cities, Yangtze River Delta has the important economic status in the nation. However, along with the fast development of Pearl River Delta region and the rising of Persian Gulf economical belt, the competition pressure which Yangtze River Delta faces becomes more and more big. Therefore, under this situation, the study on urban competitiveness of Yangtze River Delta to know clearly the status and the situation, the superiority and the insufficiency of cities, has the extremely vital significance to promote the supplement of interurban superiority in the region, optimize and allocate resources, comprehensively promote the region economy's competitiveness in nation and even the world.Taking theories of regional economics, statistics, management as the instruction, and urban competitiveness of Yangtze River Delta as the master line, this paper uses standard analysis and practical analysis method to analyze the present situation, the question and the origin of urban competitiveness of Yangtze River Delta systematically, and discusses the effective way of promoting urban competitiveness of Yangtze River Delta. This paper first analyzes the present research situation of the domestic and foreign urban competitiveness, gives an exact conception to urban competitiveness. On the basis of analyzing the basic theory and the domestic and foreign urban competitiveness model, obtaining from the city's five big functions: production, collection and distribution, service, management and innovation, this paper proposes the preliminary frame of urban competitiveness evaluation model of Yangtze River Delta, and establishes the evaluation indexes system of urban competitiveness. With the help of SPSS11.0 statistical analysis software, Factor Analysis is used in the paper to analysis the urban competitiveness of 16 cities of Yangtze River Delta and the condition of 16 cities' five essential factors: production, collection and distribution, service, management and innovation. Then this paper uses the Shift-Share method to analysis deeply the industrial factor in lifting urban competitiveness of Yangtze River Delta. Finally, strategies to lift urban competitiveness are presented for the whole city system and for city individually. Along with the SWOT Analysis, the paper gives some measures to promote urban competitiveness of 16 cities in the perspective of a system from the full cooperation angle. Learning from corporation competing strategy, city's basic competing strategy and ranking strategy are proposed.
