Tracking back to the history of urban development, the whole course is full of constant renewal and transforming. It's a process of metabolism. Urban renewal makes the city get new space to develop and upgrade. It exists in the course of urban development as a self-regulation mechanism.Looking back to the history of urban renewal in western countries, nearly all limited by microcosmic angles, the researches about urban renewal are always lack of research of urban development macroscopically. So this thesis will research how does improvement of urban restructuring do to urban renewal. What's more, this paper will especially research urban renewal of Chengdu as an example.There are five parts in this thesis. The first part is the introduction of the research, putting forward why the thesis chose the topic and describing research approach and frame. The second part presents basic theories of urban renewal. The third part discuss the relationships between urban restructuring and urban renewal. The next part is about research of Chengdu's urban renewal from the angle of urban restructuring. The last part is the conclusion of the whole thesis. The details as follows:The second part reviews and combs on the development of urban renewal in . western countries and correlative theories so as to explain the meaning of urban renewal more intensively. Then the paper analyses the research in our country from the same angle. Then the thought about the difference between western and our country was given. On the basis of these discusses, the meaning of urban renewal in this paper was given.The third part first explains the truly cause of urban renewal from the process of city development. From three aspects as land restructuring, social restructuring, cultural space made, the thesis set up a system about the relationships between urban restructuring and urban renewal. At the same time, the paper introduces the relationship among three aspects themselves.The fourth part reviews the development of Chengdu and the courses of urban renewal. On the basis of the third part, the paper sets up the relationship between the three aspects and Chengdu renewal. From this point of view, the side-effect of Chengdu renewal was found.The fifth part summarizes the relationship between urban restructuring and urban renewal. Then found the truly causes of side-effect about Chengdu renewal. At last, there are two angles suggested from urban restructuring of the city, or from the urban renewal self, then construct the harmonious country in the future.
