Research On Crossdocking Centers Planning And Operaions

Recently, crossdocking has received much attention as a result of the commercial successes of large trans-shippers such as Wal-Mart. Crossdocking can effectively bring substantial reductions in the transportation cost and inventory-holding costs, and improve the flexibility and responsiveness of the distribution network. This paper is organized as follows: The first part presents the operation theory. The key part focuses on the crossdocking centers, including efficient layout and the best shape for a crossdock. In this part, how the best shape for a crosssdock changes as the dock size increases is discussed in this part by using definitions of centrality and inside/outside corners; Some guidelines for efficient layouts are summarized and the theorem that a efficient layout has stack doors arranged unimodally with respect to their flows is proved. The last part discusses how to implement the crossdocking operations successfully.Even though the CD strategy has been applied successfully, the associated CD research has not been studied much. Until now, there are not systemic summary on relative literature review at home and abroad, but this paper presents relative literature review; On the basis of others'research, the first part summarizes and perfects related stydies to form systemic operations theory; This paper analyzes the crossdocking issue from the microcosmic and macroscopical aspects which is a new way; In order to analyze and prove some conclusion, some new conception and quantitative analysis are introduced in the key part.
