Urban Agglomeration Spatial Analysis And Research On The Development Of Principal Urban Agglomerations In Western Region

City is the growth center of regional economy development. Cities aggregate population, information, technology and capital, and they aggregate more when the capacity of interaction in cities enhances. When cities , which are functional complementarily, linking together by economic network, sharing information, economic elements, infrastructures and markets, forming urban agglomerations, every city benefits from the interactive growth. The improving overall strength of west urban agglomerations will promote west region's economic, social development.Because of the great differences in nature condition, social and economy development, it is impossible that western region develops uniformly. We should give preferential development to regions which have dense population, superiorities in physical geography, well developed economy and city base, by the rules of regional economy. That is, through principal urban agglomerations development strategy, to promote the overall development of western region's economy.This thesis gives analyses on the spatial structure of urban agglomeration, haves empirical studies on Cheng-Yu, Guan-Zhong plain urban agglomerations, discusses their current situation and main problems existed, comes up with the development strategy of principal urban agglomerations in the west.Contents of the thesis:Part one is introduction. It gives an explanation about the background and the significance of this research. Part two Defines the Conception of urban agglomeration,describes the characteristic and types. Part three explains the spatial structure theory of urban agglomeration. Part four aims at introducing the history and current situation of urban development in western region. Part five discusses the strategy of west urban agglomerations development. Part six gives an empirical study on principal urban agglomerations. Part seven the development strategy of principal urban agglomerations in the west.Main contribution :The research subject has practical significance. On the basis of existed researches and under the guidance of such relevant disciplines as Regional Economics, Industrial Economics, Economic Geography,Growth Pole Theory, Core-Periphery Theory, Points-Axes Theory, Net-work Development Theory, this thesis explains the concept, spatial structure and development mechanism of urban agglomeration, determines center cities'space attractive area and the principal urban agglomerations'space scope, and then analyse the level of urbanization, scale structure, function structure, industrial structure, spatial structure of west principal urban agglomeration.The research approaches of this thesis are Qualitative-Quantitative, Partial-Wholly Analysis. Pay attention to the role of statistic data, comprehensive application of disciplines knowledge.Main Research indicators: economic distance, gravity strength, urbanization rate, city-scale system, leading-city rate, industry structure, function specialization.
