The highlight of global economy has been inclining on the service trade. Along with this trend, the new round of international competition has been focusing on the service industry and service trade. GATS, i.e. General Agreement of Trade in Service, which was born on the Uruguay round of GATT (General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade), was the sign of the important change of the meaning and structure of present international trade. China took part in WTO (Word Trade Organization) in the end of 2001, which means Chinese service market has been joining in the international service market day by day. When considering the developing direction of Chinese service trade, the background of international market should be taken into consideration seriously. China can not improve its competitiveness unless understanding its competitors and itself well. Therefore, the research of international competitiveness of Chinese service trade has an important practical meaning.The dissertation combined the Quantitative Analysis and Qualitative Analysis, used the thought of questions discovering, questions analyzing and questions resolving, and then summed up the present development situation and main interfering factors of international competitiveness in Chinese service trade. It pointed out that although Chinese service trade's development is fast and the import and export trend is good and rising, its international competitiveness is still not strong enough due to kinds of reasons. Finally, basing on those reasons, the dissertation figured out several suggestions to resolve the problems.There are six chapters altogether. The first chapter is introduction, in which the author put Chinese service trade's development into the environment of international market, introduced the background and summarized the existed researching fruits in this area. Meanwhile, the research methods and dissertation structure are introduced in this chapter. The second chapter focused on the concepts and main theories. In order to understand a problem's forming and developing, we should make clear its related concepts firstly. In this chapter, the author gave a detailed explanation of some concepts, such as service industry, service trade and their characteristics. What's more important, two main theories about service trade competitiveness, comparative advantage theory and competitive advantage theory, and their applicability and weakness were interpreted in this chapter. In the third chapter, the author analyzed the actuality of Chinese service trade. Using a series of data and linguistic explanation, the author pointed out that although the developing trend of Chinese service trade was satisfying, compared with developed even some other developing countries and districts in the international market, its competitiveness is not strong enough. There was a big distance to be supplemented no matter in conception or system. In the forth chapter, the author illustrated three indices to evaluate the international competitiveness which includes the ratio of domestic export to world export total, revealed comparative advantages and competitive advantage. And then combined with those indices, the author gave both quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis on Chinese service trade's international competitiveness. This part strengthened the conclusion of the third chapter. The fifth chapter analyzed the problem further. It mainly listed the main factors which can influence on international competitiveness of service trade. In fact, it also means those aspects which need to be strengthened. The last chapter paid attention to how to resolve the problem. In this chapter, basing on the above five parts and combining the idiographic actuality of Chinese service trade, the author figured out several suggestions from human resources, changing from villages to cities, absorbing foreign capital and government service, etc.
