From year 2000 to 2005, China finished 340 berths which can alongside more than 10,000 tons vessels. The newly built berths add 25 billion tons throughput capacity. Construction of large specialized berths for containers, oil bulks and ore carriers is strengthened. Until the end of 2005, there are nine 200,000-and-over-ton berths and the total throughput reaches 100 million tons. However, the total port capacity still can not meet the market requirement, especially large specialized berth. In the years to come, the construction of deep water wharfs is still necessary. The Ministry of Communications told in the Conference of Iron & Steel Industry Strategic Development and Investment that the whole Chinese port layout will be adjusted and two new areas, which include south-east and south-west coastal areas except Yangtze River delta, Pearl River Delta and Bohai Ring, were added. It is opportunity of Fujian port construction. Although the fact is just as what mentioned above, carrying out economical investigation and throughput forecasting of port hinterland is necessary before the construction project is really started.
