An Empirical Study On Efficiency Of China's Property-liability Insurance Companies And Its Influencing Factors

This paper systematically analyses the efficiency of China's Property-liability Insurance companies with the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) method. After analysis the frontier theory, this paper select the Non-parametric estimation method and its BCC model to analyse the pure technology efficiency and scale efficiency of 11 Property-liability Insurance companies from 2000 to 2003, at the same time, this paper analysis the state-owned, share-holding, foreign invested Property-liability Insurance companies comparatively. The result shows: the pure technology efficiency of state-owned Property-liability Insurance companies is high, but its scale efficiency is low; the pure technology efficiency and scale efficiency of share-holding companies is low, the two index of foreign invested Property-liability Insurance companies are high. Afterwards, this paper analyse its efficiency influencing factors with the co-relation analyse method, the result shows: the profit ability and risk management ability have a significance influence on the pure technology efficiency; Capital-asset ratio, scale, financing level, human resource, risk management ability have a significance influence on the scale efficiency.After research the actuality of the Property-liability Insurance industry, this paper concludes the reasons for the low efficiency of the China's Property-liability Insurance Companies: weak on profit ability, product innovation, and risk management ability. At last this thesis gives some suggestions on how to improve the efficiency of the China's Property-liability Insurance Companies.
