| China has a long history in traditional Chinese medicine. The majority of Chinese take traditional Chinese medicine till now. However most of the traditional Chinese medicine in the international market do not come from china. It means that china is not a strong country in traditional Chinese medicine. There are many factors in it, for example poor R&D ability, lacking R&D expenses and unmatched R&D with the international market etc. With the quickly progress of the world economic integral whole and China successfully becoming the member of the WTO, and with the multilateral trade agreement coming into effect, the Chinese herbal medicine pharmaceutical enterprise will face more vigorous market competition and challenge. Therefore if an enterprise hoping to survive luckily and waiting for an opportunity to become much stronger, it must make a progress in R&D.This research begins with the present condition of R&D, sketching a glorious achievement of Chinese herbal medicine industry in the past, the present advantage and the unmatched circumstances with the "big traditional Chinese medicine country" in the international traditional herbal medicine market. After comparing with other countries, I get a conclusion that we still have some shortages at new traditional Chinese medicine R&D. Through research of problems, ways of thinking and countplans of R&D in the future in Chinese herbal medicine, this paper analyzes detailedly how we should manage the R&D in order that we can acquire the new traditional Chinese medicine product with special features or advantages and make it popular in the world market.Now it has something to do with R&D about disadvantageous position of Chinese herbal medicine in the international market.
