China and Japan are neighboring countries and share similarities in political and economical systems. The Opium War happened in China and Black Ship' s Event happened in Japan in the mid-19th century. After that, the two countries, China and Japan, were obliged to open up and came to their way to modernization. In terms of economy, they took up different measures of intervention to the companies in their country. As for the maritime industry, the governments differ in their attitude and action, which resulted in different ways of development. Ever since the Opium War, imperialists of the West swarmed into China, seized dominance over the sea and slackened its wood ship industry; apart from that, large revenues from maritime industry fell into the hands of foreigners. During Westernization Movement, the Qing Dynasty took some efforts and supported the development of Chinese maritime industry, but only within the range of governmental monopoly. Instead, Japan admired new techniques and creative development. Not only they introduced advanced techniques from the West, but the government encouraged and greatly supported national industries, providing them money and making favorable policies for them, which sped up prosperous development of Japanese maritime industry.Altogether, in China an Japan in the modern times, governmental intervention had great influence on development of the industries: negative attitude of the Qing Dynasty could not make a powerful maritime industry in China although China...
