With the coming of the knowledge economy, knowledge has become the most important resource in the case of organizations. As the core of knowledge management, knowledge innovation has become the mystery of business success as well as the key to enhance the core competitiveness of enterprises. Trying to promote knowledge innovation process by creating knowledge innovation-oriented communities have attracted more and more attention from enterprises, in order to enhance and preserve their own core competitiveness, to achieve the capacity for sustainable development and to win the unique competitive advantage. Research on knowledge innovation-oriented communities and relevant issues not only has the positive meaning in the light of academic exploration, but also has an extremely important practical significance for our business to cope with challenge of knowledge economy, to strategically seize market changes, to seek competitive advantage and to achieve sustainable development.This paper develops analysis and synthesis about knowledge innovation and knowledge communities based on the domestic and foreign existing researches, and thus points out the importance and necessity of establishing knowledge communities for businesses under the context of knowledge economy in order to achieve knowledge innovation. The related theory such as, the concept and characteristics, together with the influencing factors, functions and operation basis of knowledge innovation and knowledge communities were elaborated. Combined with the open, dynamic, systematic and integrated characteristics of knowledge communities, researches on building knowledge communities and various mechanisms to support the healthy development were carried out. The paper then obtains the three-dimensional schematic structure and the structural model of knowledge innovation-oriented community. Finally, the case of Fujitsu is used to explain how to promote knowledge innovation by building knowledge communities, providing reference for enterprises to integrate and apply different knowledge across organizational boundaries, and to enhance innovative capacity. From the systemic perspective, the paper implements comprehensive utilization of systems analysis, model analysis, theoretical analysis and case studies and other research method.
