The development of grassland husbandry is based on the scientific utilization of grassland resources. In Mongolia, grassland husbandry is a traditional industry and also the pillar industry of its national economy. In a long term, effected by the natural factors and unreasonable operation in Mongolia, the grassland is desertified and the ecological environment is deteriorated, which made the grassland husbandry face stern challenge. The grassland desertification in Mongolia started to worsen from 1990s. In last 20 years the grassland desertification has been very serious. According to statistical data in 2007, above 72% land suffered from desertification to different extent and the situation still tends to get worse and worse. The grassland desertification does not only hinder the development of husbandry economy in Mongolia, but also poses threat to the ecological balance in the whole country and area, social and economic development and people's life. Therefore, the research on grassland desertification in Mongolia has both important theoretical significance on sustainable development of grassland husbandry and reference value to research on global ecological environment.On the basis of relevant research fruits in China and abroad and guided by fundamental theories of grassland husbandry economy, ecological economics, institutional economics,and sustainable development economics, the paper firstly analyzes and summarizes the current status of grassland desertification in Mongolia; then it analyzes causes to the situation and influence of desertification to the grassland husbandry in terms of human factors and natural factors;at last, it proposes related strategy and advices.
