Study On The Function Of The Chinese Scientific And Technical Associations

With the deepening reform of government institutions and the development of social organizations, the associations of science and technology, as non-governmental organizations, are becoming one of three pillars of social organizations in China, together with the government and enterprises, and they also are playing an irreplaceable role in the government and enterprises. However, the science and technology associations grow up in the special social cultural environment in China, especially in the period of social transformation, the functions of science and technology associations show some new features and changes. Therefore, it is an important issue to study the functions of science and technology associations in order to promote their development and reform.The dissertation firstly uncovers the veil of the science and technology associations in China based on their organization structure, functions, development history and status. Secondly, refering to the experience of other countries, we discusses the functions of the Science and Technology Association under the background of transformation of government functions, and then analyse the factors restricting the Science and Technology Association playing its role. Thirdly, we study the direction and orientation of the functions of the Science and Technology Association in China, then give some reasonable suggestions for its further development. The results of this research not only enrich the existing empirical literatures, but also provide some guidance for the development and reform of the other social associations.
